Retractable trailers can pose a significant safety risk if their locking pins aren't 100% locked into place. They could separate on the road causing accidents or the load could shift during transport thereby reducing the braking capacity of a heavily loaded vehicle. Phillip's idea locks the rear trailer breaks until the trailer pins are fully secure thus removing these risks.
