Patties Foods Ltd is based in Bairnsdale, East Gippsland and is one of the largest employers in the region. In October 2012 the company launched an Injury Management Strategy which included the appointment of an Injury Management Advisor to provide a greater focus on successful return-to-work outcomes. The Company has recently implemented a number of initiatives designed to improve the management of workplace injuries. A major focus has been on building relationships with the regional medical community which has resulted in a significant improvement in return to work outcomes.

Sofitel Melbourne On Collins is a 5-star luxury hotel located at the Paris-end of Collins St. Its signature restaurant, No35, serves modern cuisine using only the best local produce with an emphasis on pure flavor. Peter Jeremic is a Commis Chef in No35. He injured his back when he bent down to pull a tray out of the fridge, and had no capacity for work for 3 months. He has returned to work and is gradually increasing his hours and duties.

This program was designed and implemented to assist Managers and Supervisors in ONE part of the RTW process, at times, the most difficult part – engaging the injured worker, from day one (and at times his family) and to ensure, and display to the injured worker that he is important part of our Business and Team, and to enable a better connection & develop a relationship between the injured worker and the employer, which assist in a “smoother” and in most cases an earlier RTW. Approximately 200 staff spread across three Depots within Victoria (Freight Industry).

Listed on the Australian Stock Exchange since 1987 the organisation has grown from a small post tensioning company to a diverse international contractor servicing industries such as construction, civil, mining, design, remedial, manufacture and supply. I have been with its concrete company since 2000 and took on the role of QSE & Return to Work Coordinator for the whole group focusing on RTW in Victoria over three years ago, looking after a workforce of 320. Since commencing the role, I have developed a flexible Return to Work program for injured workers through thorough research, training, experience and consultation.
