Hazard assessment and management app for all smart phones. The application validates hazard and control processes, allows for onsite variation that incorporates risk assessment and control, together with communication of control to responsible management. The application integrates geocoding, identity and time coding to validate who, where and when the assessment is undertaken. The app also includes hazard reporting, stop work documentation and leadership walk facilities. This is a step change improvement over paper based take 5 concepts.

What was the issue/s at the workplace?

Validation of hazard control process, JSEA and Safe Work Procedures. Our business is an engineering and project delivery business. Our work is conducted on sites under the control of other people, usually functioning under their safety programs. We needed a tool that enabled us to adjust our safe work processes at the location of the work, where variation could be introduced to meet the operational conditions of the day. Furthermore we needed to enable communication to then responsible management team, to ensure they were across any changes to the work process.

What did you do to control it/resolve it?

We designed an assessment tool using the principles of the energy damage model and the hierarchy of control to assess onsite hazards. This concept was developed into a web based application utilising html5 technology so that it could be used on any web enabled mobile phone. The tool simplified the manual process and enabled real time hazard management communication.

Who did you talk to about the issue/s or who helped you resolve it?

The concept was developed by working with the safety team, operational project teams and our people in the field.

What was the outcome? How is the workplace better now?

Our onsite hazard management has changed from just another form to be filled in, to one that is desired. The quality of data has dramatically improved, the administration simplified, and the cost of administration has been reduced by more than 90%. Furthermore the governance of our hazard management has greatly improved in that we are now know when, where and who has completed the hazard control. Furthermore the communications processes have moved from historical to real time. This solution is unique, and can be applied to any orgranisation.
