Safety record continues to climb - State Plant Hire P/L
Best health and safety initiative in a small business (20 employees or less) - 2012 Awards
State Plant Hire P/L specialises in erosion control, landslip and waterway rehabilitation as well as general earthmoving and plant hire across Victoria, we have implemented AS-4801 in the past 8 years- upgrading from Safety Map Initial from 1997. We have had no LTI's for for over 5400 days which also includes over 300 subcontractors, we believe we do it right and continue to improve our safety systems on a daily basis.
What was the issue/s at the workplace?
Continuously working around steep eroded banks and waterways, slippery, dangerous conditions with limited difficult access, we require attention on the worksite continuously by all personnel.
What did you do to control it/resolve it?
Our main focus is to run pre-start inductions every day, with a focus on what needs to be achieved for the day, how we are going to tackle the issues and who is going to be performing each task. Our safety system is written to allow changes to our SWMS. Documents to reflect these changes.
Who did you talk to about the issue/s or who helped you resolve it?
We believe the onsite personnel are the most experienced in identifiying the issues and when everyone is involved in the initial proccess, nothing gets left out.
What was the outcome? How is the workplace better now?
We have tackled some extremely difficult projects across the state and to the credit of our workforce, we have achieved over 5400 days without a lost time injury.
