Return to Work Coordinator excellence - 2012 Awards
Horticultural Technician tasks look like they have more chance to get Workcover injury.
Describe what you do better or differently in the way you manage return to work compared to other Return to Work Coordinators?
1.Gave presentations to each division across organization to introduce myself, return to work obligations and access to RTW information.
2.Reminder and communication procedure set up. Send reminder to injured worker to review with doctor 2 days before certificate expiry. Send communication email to line manager after receiving updated certificate to communicate work restrictions and provide 'light duties' accordingly.
3.Talk to injured employee once known they were off work and keep in contact to get updated information, also communicate with worker's line manager.
4.Created Alternative duties Register, review every 6 month with branch manager.
5.Introduce myself to new starter on first day.
What is an example of a great return to work outcome or initiative you've achieved/developed in your workplace?
Worker who has workcover injury and worker's line manager are more than comfortable to talk me once injury happened to get advice and information. I developed a good communication channel.
What is the secret to success of your return to work initiative and/or as a Return to Work Coordinator?
I would say no secret - it's all about care and responsibility.
Where possible please provide information that will support your entry, this could include return to work results.
I also liaise with the insurer and if required, rehabilitation provider. Also for Horticulture technician position, we have done the full job task analysis so that it will be easier if doctor will need to understand the whole picture about what are the tasks involved, so it will help with injury worker's RTW.
