Through customer feedback and 24 months of research we identified a need to develop an effective, affordable alternative to current light and medium duty cable covers and protectors in the workplace.
The limitations imposed on the end user by the design of these products includes prohibitive costs, lack of flexibility and in some cases manual handling risks.
Our challenge was to design a range of products that were flexible enough to be adapted to suit a customers exact requirements while remaining affordable and effective without simply substituting one hazard for another as is often the case.

What was the issue/s at the workplace?

An issue that effects almost every workplace across all industries is unsecured trailing cords and cables on the floor. They’re hazardous, they look unprofessional and in a lot of cases are completely unnecessary. While there are a number of different products currently available that claim to address the issue, they all impose limitations on the end user in their design, suitability and/ or prohibitive cost.

Through customer feedback and 24 months of research we identified a huge overuse and in a lot of cases a complete misuse of unsuitable inappropriate cable management products and a need to develop an effective, affordable alternative to current light and medium duty cable covers and protectors in the workplace Our challenge was to design a range of products that were flexible enough to be adapted to suit a customer’s exact requirements while remaining affordable and effective without simply substituting one hazard for another as is often the case.

What did you do to control it/resolve it?

Trailing cords and cables are a problem in almost every industry from the Boardroom right down to the job site so we designed a range of cord and cable management products that address what we identified as the three main areas of concern, the prohibitive costs, the trip hazard and the risk of damage to cords from impact.

Our ONE-COVER Floor Cord Cover is a single component light duty cable cover for securing trailing cords and cables on carpet surfaces available in Highly Visible and Discrete colour options. We opted for the single component construction as it gives customers the “cut to length” flexibility to ensure it suits their exact requirements as well as providing the lowest profile to reduce any potential trip hazard. The single component construction also dramatically reduced the manufacturing costs which we were able to pass on to our customers.

The ONE-COVER Overhead Cord Cover is a single component overhead cord management product designed to remove the risk of damage to cords and cables from impact. Unlike other commercially available products, the ONE-COVER Overhead Cord Cover removes not only the risk of damage to cords but also the trip hazard associated with other Speed Hump style products.The Overhead Cord Cover is available in Highly Visible Yellow or Yellow /Black hazard stripe in easy cut to length form with the same dramatically reduced costs as the Floor Cord Cover.
Our ONE-COVER Desk Cord Cover product is designed to simply, easily and effectively manage messy cords and cables behind your desk or workstation. Displaying the same flexibility and cost savings as our ONE-COVER Floor and Overhead Cord Covers, the Desk Cord Cover is easily applied to the underside of your desk without the need for tools or tradesmen. Unlike metal or plastic Cable Trays, the DeskMate discretely secures your cords and cables while still allowing them to be adjusted inside the unit. The unique hook and loop fastening system also allows cords and cable to enter or exit anywhere along it’s length while still remaining secure.

Who did you talk to about the issue/s or who helped you resolve it?

By listening to our customers and incorporating their feedback into the design of the ONE-COVER range we were able to deliver exactly what they were looking for, affordability, flexibility and effectiveness.

Consulting with safety professionals, an Independent Risk Assessment, reporting and with the assistance of VELCRO® Australia we have been able to incorporate product compliance, world first safety features and revolutionary design to overcome the limitations imposed by other products.

What was the outcome? How is the workplace better now?

As a result we’ve been able to provide customers with a safer more effective, affordable solution to cord and cable management in the workplace while also providing us with an opportunity to re-educate end users on the correct use of these types of products.

The outcome has been a reduced reliance on unsuitable and unnecessary cord and cable management products that either don’t adequately address the hazards associated with trailing cords and cables in the workplace or simply substitute one hazard with another potentially more hazardous product.
