What motivated you to set up a health and wellbeing program?
The majority of our people are in offices designing solutions for our client partners. JHealth builds on our company’s successful annual health campaigns to a monthly health and wellness program offering a full range of services to staff. JHealth offers the services of a health professional who will regularly visit our offices providing health assessments, information and advice through Regular tool-box style health briefings, A secure website allows access to health information and confidential email, one-on-one sessions are available on an ongoing basis and follow up and interaction with health professionals through email, SMS and social media.
What does your program involve?
JHealth brings the health professional directly into the workplace, making managing your health as easy as coming to work. People are busy and sometimes health takes a back seat to life's many other priorities. JHealth provides free, confidential access to health professionals during work hours and access to a secure website which allows staff to track their progress, access health information and ask questions. Health professionals will set up health programs and monitor through face to face consultations and follow up by telephone, SMS, email and social media. Jacobs provide JHealth because we care about our people. We have collected information through perception surveys, direct feedback from staff and general feedback from health month campaigns over previous years. The staff participating in the program set the tone of the program content and the personal health assessment and programs are driven by the individual needs of our people. Our people start with a basic health assessment then discuss concerns or risk factors to assist in the development of a tailored program to meet their needs. The program is supported by use of a secure website, email, SMS and social media which supports and encourages staff in between site visits by health professionals. The use of the internet and technology could also assist where regular site visits are not cost effective or possible due to operational requirements The Vice President of the company supports the program by providing full funding for JHealth, releasing staff during work hours to participate and promoting the program during all employee meetings. The VP and members of the leadership team also actively participate in JHealth and promote it within the organisation. JHealth is coordinated in partnership between the HSE Manager and HR Director who are responsible for running the program and seeking feedback from the workforce on ways to enhance the program. The program has been a great success over the past 12 months and we are looking to build on that.
What did you do to promote the program?
The program was launched with the assistance of AFL identify Alistair Lynch who kicked off the JHealth program in each of our offices across Australia, the launch communicated the services offerings of JHealth and asked participants to come along to a one on one session for initial health check. The program is promoted via site email, monthly toolbox discussions, a dedicated JHealth notice board in each of our offices which advise visit dates, health topic of the month and focus foods for the month.
Who participated in the program?
We have had excellent participation in the program with over 1000 one-on-one health consultations in the past 12 months.
What was the impact of the program and how was this measured?
Over 1000 one-on-one health consultations have been completed with our people so far this year. All appointments are booked out each time the JHealth team visit our offices – demand currently outweighs supply. We have received very positive feedback in a staff perception surveys recently completed across the organisation. The program has identified 3 potentially life-changing health conditions which were referred for further medical assessment and treatment.
